Telco APIs:
Interoperable Network APIs for Connected Mobility
Background
and Motivation
Connected vehicles increasingly rely on advanced connectivity services for intelligent driving, HD maps, digital twins, remote operations, and software-defined vehicle (SDV) capabilities. Yet today’s connectivity ecosystem remains fragmented, requiring OEMs to integrate with multiple operators, platforms, and proprietary interfaces. AECC members have identified the need for a unified, open, and interoperable API foundation that enables mobility services to leverage network capabilities consistently across regions and providers.
Standardized Telco APIs provide a common way for mobility services to access network intelligence, connectivity management, location capabilities, and edge computing resources, enabling more reliable, scalable, and efficient connected vehicle services.
AECC’s Role
AECC brings together automotive, telecommunications, cloud, and technology leaders to identify mobility requirements and promote interoperable solutions. Through requirements development, industry collaboration, and Proofs of Concept (PoCs), AECC helps ensure that emerging Telco APIs address real-world automotive needs and support global deployment of connected vehicle services.
Key Initiative
The AECC Telco API Special Interest Group (SIG) focuses on how network and edge capabilities can be exposed through standardized APIs for connected mobility.
Key focus areas include:
- SIM and subscription lifecycle management
- Connectivity insights and quality control
- Edge routing and workload management
- Multi-network connectivity management
- Digital twin enablement
- Vehicle, edge, and cloud orchestration
The SIG combines use case definition, technical analysis, industry collaboration, and PoC development to accelerate interoperable solutions for connected mobility.

AECC collaborates with leading industry organizations to advance Telco API adoption:
- GSMA Open Gateway — Aligning automotive requirements with globally interoperable network APIs. We have demonstrated at recent Mobile World Congress events including MWC 24, MWC 25 and MWC 26.
- CAMARA — Contributing automotive use cases and requirements to open network API development at the AECC’s April 2026 All Member Meeting (AMM) in Gothenburg.
- TM Forum — Participating in Catalyst projects exploring federated connectivity, edge monetization, and API-enabled mobility services at TMF Catalyst 24 and TMF Catalyst 25.
- 5GAA — Joint work on digital twin interoperability, MEC integration, and network API requirements at our October 2024 AMM in Berlin and our Gothenburg AMM.
- JASPAR — Collaboration on advanced connectivity and future SDV requirements at our November 2025 AMM in Tokyo.
